A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With One Step

 

I am Shifu Sandra Balint, the owner of the Healthy Mind and Body Studio and a Master in Tai Chi and Qi Gong, receiving my teaching certification from my long time teacher Grandmaster Jiang Jianye.  I am also a certified teacher for the Health Preservation Association (HPA), a member of FANA, the Fan Association of North America and I train at the Chinese Martial Arts Academy of Latham, NY (CMAA) under Master Lucas Geller.

I have trained in Yang, Wu, Wu/Hao, Chen, Sun and He styles, empty hand and weapons forms in Tai Chi and Kung Fu with the following weapons:  fan, spear, staff (short and long), straight sword, broadsword and three section staff.  Through Grandmaster Jiang's CDTKA studio I have taken workshops with many martial arts specialists including:   Professor Le Deyin, Professor Duan Zhi Liang, Master Malee Khow, Grandmaster Zhang Zhijun, Grandmaster Pan Qing Fu, Grandmaster Xue Naiyin, Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei, Master Lu Yuzhi and Master Zou Zhao Lan.

Since 2014 I have taught Chinese Fan workshops for the Fan Association of North America's Annual Assemblage which were held in San Antonio, TX; Minneapolis, MN; Bradenton, Fl.  I will be presenting workshops again this year at their 2017 Assemblage in Chicago,IL.         

I am a National and International gold medalist in Tai Chi and Kung Fu, a judge at the North East Open martial arts tournament, and a published writer on Tai Chi, Chinese Fan and Falls Prevention for Kung Fu Magazine and its online e-zine.  Previously I collaborated with Grandmaster Jiang Jianye on a series of articles that were published in Tai Chi Magazine in 2008.

 I have performed martial arts since 1991 at a wide variety of venues including:  the New York State Egg Theater, the Zhang San Feng Festival with the Sword and Stick Society, the Tai Chi Gala, the North East Open. In 2012 and 2013 I presented a program on Tai Chi at Skidmore College for Spa Day for incoming Freshman.  Previously from 2005 through 2011 I taught a week long program on Tai Chi and Qi Gong at Skidmore College, then Brown and Yale Universities for the International Women's Writing Guild under Hannelore Hahn.  At these "Remember the Magic" conferences, I performed Tai Chi at their closing ceremonies.

In 2014 I presented a program on Chinese Fan at the Women's Voices, Women's Visions Symposium at Skidmore College and performed Flowing Water Fan with my students.

At the 2015 Women's Voices, Women's Vision Symposium I performed Mulan Fusion Fan, a form I created and choreographed. 

I have taught in the Capital Region of New York State for nearly two and half decades, first at the Capital District Tai Chi & Kung Fu Association (CDTKA), for BOCES in their Gifted & Talented programs, for Dancing through Time and Dance Plus programs held at the National Museum of Dance and at Skidmore College, and since 2007 I have taught Tai Chi in Latham, NY for Continuing Education of the North Colonie School District.
